Erin Messer, LPC/MHSP(T)
Hi, I’m Erin Messer, and I’m excited to be part of the team at Helping Hands Counseling. My background in mental health includes working in residential treatment at Village Behavioral Health in Louisville, Tennessee, where I gained valuable experience supporting children and adolescents navigating trauma, emotional and behavioral challenges, and complex mental health needs. Through this work, I developed a deep appreciation for the ways our experiences, relationships, and environments shape how we see ourselves and connect with the world around us.
Working with young people in residential treatment has given me a unique perspective on the importance of safety, connection, and emotional regulation in the healing process. I recognize that behaviors often communicate needs that are difficult to put into words, and I believe that understanding what lies beneath those behaviors is an important part of creating meaningful change. My approach is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and the belief that every individual deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood.
While much of my experience has centered on children and adolescents, I also enjoy supporting adults as they navigate anxiety, stress, difficult relationships, life transitions, and the lasting impact of challenging experiences. Whether working with a child learning to understand their emotions, a teenager navigating identity and relationships, or an adult working through patterns that no longer serve them, I strive to create a welcoming, collaborative space where clients can explore their experiences without fear of judgment.
I believe therapy is not about fixing what is wrong with someone, but about helping individuals recognize their strengths, better understand themselves, and develop the tools they need to move forward. Healing looks different for everyone, and I value meeting each person where they are while honoring their individual pace and needs.
At Helping Hands Counseling, I believe growth happens when we feel safe enough to explore, supported enough to take chances, and empowered enough to create change. My hope is to provide a space where individuals of all ages can feel grounded, connected, and encouraged as they move toward healing—one step at a time.
